John W. Crain Texas History Education Award

Award Amount: $2,500


The John W. Crain Texas History Education Award is given annually to recognize an outstanding history educator who teaches any grade at the 4th–12th level.

The winning educator will be presented with a certificate and a check for $2,500 at the Association’s Annual Meeting. The winning recipient must be present at the TSHA Annual Meeting to receive the award.

Any person may nominate any full-time educator who has contributed, in a significant way, to either the Texas History Day or the Junior Historians in Texas program, is involved in the promotion or advancement of local history, has participated in TSHA or National History Day teacher workshops/trainings. Letters of nomination sent to the award committee must be postmarked on or before November 15, 2025.

Requirements:

  1. Nomination letter for the nominee (from the teacher or nominator). Letter should include:
    • Reason for the nomination
    • How the nominee has contributed to Texas History Day or Junior Historians of Texas
    • Years of involvement in either Texas History Day or Junior Historians of Texas
  2. Resume or CV for the Nominee
  3. Letter(s) of Reference (could be from principal/superintendent, fellow teacher, former student, or parent/guardian of a former student)
  4. Nomination packet cannot exceed five pages
