Betty Edwards, M.D.


Dr. Edwards has nearly 40 years of professional excellence as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. She retired from private practice in Houston and is affiliated with the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston as a Clinical Professor in the Ob-Gyn Department. She began her own education at the University of Texas, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1971. She received her Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1976 and began her practice in 1981. Dr. Edwards is benefactor to the Hallet Oak Gallery and owner of the historic Kahn & Stanzel Building in addition to other buildings downtown. The Kahn-Stanzel building has been recognized by the Texas Historical Commission and is designated in the National Registry. Her passion is to continue supporting cultural arts, sponsoring Christkindlmarkt, Downtown Hallettsville, and preservation of historic buildings. Dr. Edwards is a fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She also previously served as the 45th President General of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
