Jack Tucker

John W. “Jack” Tucker is a native Houstonian and fifth-generation Texan currently serving as a judicial law clerk to Judge Drew B. Tipton in the Houston Division of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The following year, he will clerk for Judge Leslie H. Southwick on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Austin. Jack is also an incoming associate in the Houston office of Vinson & Elkins LLP.

Jack earned his juris doctor from the University of Texas School of Law, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, & Energy Law and as a member of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy Center’s Student Advisory Council. While at Texas Law, he interned for Judge Don R. Willett on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, served as academic assistant to Oil & Gas Law professor Jack Balagia, was an articles editor for the Texas Review of Law & Politics, and participated in the Strauss Center’s Next Generation National Security Law Seminar. Jack also clerked as a summer associate in the Houston and Chicago offices of Jones Day, worked for private equity funds Trust Ventures and Fortress Energy, and co-founded The Medina Fellowship—a leadership program for promising students at UT Austin and Texas A&M. In recognition of his contributions to the University of Texas, he was inducted into the Friar Society.

Before law school, Jack worked for a Dallas-based family office and as special assistant to the CEO of an Austin-based national leadership network. He graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in Military Studies. At Texas A&M, he served as president of the Texas A&M Foundation Maroon Coats, as CEO of Britt Harris’ Titans of Investing Program, as a member of the Aggie Men’s Club, and was a recipient of the Buck Weirus Spirit Award.

Jack and his fiancée, Leigh, attend St. John Neumann Catholic Church and All Saints Presbyterian Church in Austin.
