Dolph Briscoe IV, Ph.D.


Dolph Briscoe IV, who goes by “D.B.,” is a lecturer in history at Texas A&M University–San Antonio. He received a Ph.D. in history from The University of Texas at Austin in 2014 and conducted much of his dissertation research on Texas politics in the 1960s–1980s at the Briscoe Center. He serves as the chair of the board of the Kate Briscoe Marmion Charitable Foundation. 

Born in San Antonio, he grew up in the small south Texas towns of Cotulla and Carrizo Springs and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Baylor University. He is the grandson of the late Governor Dolph Briscoe and lives in San Antonio with his wife, Margaret, and their daughters, Caroline and Elizabeth.
